For the last four years, we always go fishing with my in-laws during the long weekend in May. The road is hard and only suitable for a 4×4, but once we’re there, we discover the great outdoors. The kind of outdoors you see in the movies: large and untouched. We usually stay for four days of fishing and walks. It’s always a great weekend! In addition, access to Wi-Fi is extremely limited so you get a break from the hectic pace of your everyday life as a bonus.
This year, I went fishing twice when I was there. First I went only with my boyfriend to a faraway lake. We were there from about 11 to 5 and I caught our only fish: a speckled trout. While that may seem like a long time to catch a single fish, there really is nothing better than the peace and quiet of hanging out in a boat with a cold beer.
While the weather wasn’t at it’s best for the weekend and I did have some work to finish off in prevision of a work trip. I really enjoyed my time in the woods, plus we ended up catching about 11 trouts in our second expedition, which meant we’d enjoy a fish dinner and have some leftovers to smoke some of our trout!
In the end, a fishing weekend is a great plan for any group of friends during the long weekend. Check out the places near you, where you could go and ask around, you’re sure to find at least one friend that would enjoy it!
