3 days in Dubrovnik
Before visiting Dubrovnik, my family and I had made amazing memories in Split and Korcula, where locals taught us about the culture of this beautiful country. We were now happy to spend 3 wonderful days in the one-of-a-kind city of Dubrovnik!
Entering this medieval walled city, you’ll feel taken back in time and will easily put your imagination to work as you picture yourself as a Game of Thrones character walking in your favorite kingdom…(they film in this marvelous city!).
Hotel in Dubrovnik
We stayed at the very modern and trendy Villa Dubrovnik, located a boat ride away from the old city where all tourists gather. Morning and night, we took the hotel’s private boat to the old town. I loved the hotel’s private rocky beach (by the end of this trip, sandy beaches bored me!). I savored reading a good book in front of the Adriatic sea and when feeling too hot, jumping in the crashing waves to freshen up. I sometimes swam to the private cove nearby and embraced the peacefulness of the area.
Activities in Dubrovnik
We walked around Dubrovnik with a tour guide, learning about the city’s history while climbing up and down its streets, walking the city walls, and visiting the little shops and gelato parlors (to our special request!).
My dad and I being Game of Thrones fans, we also embarked on a Game of Thrones Tour, a very fun way to walk around the city and learn more about the filming of the show. The tour guide showed us where many scenes were filmed and we even got some scoops about the next season! Plus, we discussed with fellow Game of Thrones fans!
We also did a Kayak Tour, we paddled for 2-3 hours to my delight (I had to get the gelato out of my system!). On this tour, we learned about the history of the city but also about legends and mysteries of the island of Lokrum located right next to Dubrovnik. To my delight, we stopped for snacks and refreshments in an isolated beach cove and snorkeled. Some people even jumped off a high cliff next to the cove, some of them doing pirouettes in the air before entering the water…sights you only enjoy while on vacation! I, on the other hand, wasn’t adventurous enough to try!
Restaurant suggestion in Dubrovnik
My family and I fell in love with this delicious gelato place: Dolce Vita. Every night after dinner, we had to eat our gelato treat (sometimes for the second time of the day…don’t tell!). Make sure to try this place, it will help you cool down a bit :)
Too soon, the trip was over and I had to get back to reality, in Montreal, already ready to embark on another journey abroad!
